Liverpool 0-3 Crystal Palace
Carabao Cup Fourth Round
My original match comments for this game and two others were far more detailed and in the moment but the data got lost so this is just a brief summary as I can't remember what I wrote.
As soon as I seen the team sheet for this game I wasn't confident at all, especially against a strong Crystal Palace line-up.
Saying this I don't disagree with Arne Slot resting players as I think it was the right call.
Although I think I would have played Mamardashvilli in goal as he's still our second choice keeper and his confidence has been growing with each game.
I thought playing Kerkez in midfield and Robertson as a third centre-back wasn't going to work and overall our team was disjointed and unbalanced with too many players playing out of position.
Saying this I have faith in Arne Slot experimenting in order to find the right formula for his squad.
Some positives for me were Ngumoha who looked dangerous and Chiesa who always seems to put a smile on my face with his energy and enthusiasm.
This wasn't a very good performance overall but I think it will be valuable experience for our younger players.
I must say I think the post-match media were a laughing stock with their comments and questions.
Arne Slot has not only guided us to the league title but he's conducted himself with great humility and class throughout some very difficult times this year, showing what a true leader he is.
His post-match interviews after each loss we've had have been refreshingly honest and calm, when many other managers would be crumbling.
Hiighlights and reaction below.
