Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool

Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool

I watched this match as I have Amazon Prime but writing about it a few days later isn't the best thing as all the details have trickled out of the mind.

The one thing I do remember is that we weren't the same Liverpool of this season. I think this was down to team selection and not being mentally prepared for how tough a game it was going to be.

I immediately had anxiety about how the game would go when I seen Frimpong was playing a midfield role. I'm not sure what Arne Slot is trying but it didn't work out in this game. I do trust him though, so hopefully it will work in time or he will decide it was a mistake.

Galatasaray were well up for this game and I think they won in the mentality stakes. I mentioned after the Crystal Palace defeat that we have that winning mentality, even in defeat.

I still believe this but I do think in this game we weren't mentally prepared for how much Galatasaray and their fans were going to be up for it.

Wirtz

There are question marks in some of the media after this game and even before, about Florian Wirtz, but I think the guy has been immense in his work-rate and is playing a different role in a new league so it will take time for him to adapt and for Arne Slot to get the best out of him.

Alisson injury

This was the biggest concern of the night for me. We know how important Alisson is and now we will see the quality of our new signing and potential long-term replacement for Alisson in Giorgi Mamardashvili in the upcoming games.

Konate

Some more question marks over his performance is definitely pointing towards his head not being 100% in the game due to his contract situation. That's my feeling and that it needs sorting out pretty soon.

I do believe as much as this wasn't a great result and overall performance, it was actually a match decided by very fine margins, namely a very soft penalty.

All in all it was a very difficult away game, after another difficult away game at Crystal Palace and before another difficult away game at Chelsea.

It is a tough period for us and many would take a draw at Chelsea now, but I want us to go into that game to win because we certainly have the quality to do.

It will also send a strong statement to our rivals that we can bounce back and are top of the league for a reason.
